About the Project

Daily Chef is a smart recipe web app designed to help busy people and families cook varied, tasty meals—fast. It gives users daily ideas, helps reduce food waste, and makes planning meals less stressful.

Outcome

  • Eat well with quick, budget-friendly meals

  • Save time and reduce stress

  • Cook using what’s already in the fridge

Outcome

UX/UI design for recipe app

Challenge

People juggling work, kids, and life. Cooking every day can feel like a chore, and coming up with new ideas adds extra pressure. Daily Chef is built for users who want better meals, without spending hours in the kitchen or breaking the bank.

  • Not enough time to plan or cook

  • Lack of meal ideas

  • Food waste from unused ingredients

  • Making meals everyone in the family enjoys

UX/UI Process

1. User Research

We spoke with 5 users, mainly busy parents, and learned about their cooking habits, pain points, and goals. This gave us a strong foundation for the MVP.

Tools used:

  • User Interviews

  • Competitor & SWOT Analysis

  • Journey Mapping

2. Define

We created three personas:

  • A single parent managing allergies and time

  • A couple with a newborn and little energy

  • A health-conscious user focused on variety and budget

They all shared one key need: simple, creative cooking without the stress.

3. Ideate & Sketch

Using the research, we built wireframes and tested them early. This helped us adjust navigation, recipe flow, and filters before going high-fidelity.

I also created an initial prototype of Scrabble to test its functionality in the early stages.

4. Prototyping and Testing

We developed a clickable prototype with clear flows for:

  • Onboarding

  • Finding recipes

  • Using cooking mode

  • Filtering by time or ingredients

We ran usability tests with clear tasks:

  1. Complete onboarding

  2. Pick a recipe and start cooking

  3. Use the “Create your meal” feature

  4. Search for a quick recipe

From the feedback, we improved filter clarity, button labels, and recipe structure.
